How much firewood do I need for a Macedon Ranges winter?
It depends on how often you use your heater and how well
insulated your home is.
As a rough guide:
– Primary heating source, burning 24/7 → 6 to 10 cubic metres per year
– Wood heater 6–8 hours per day through winter → 3 to 6 cubic metres
– Supplement to gas or electric heating → 1.5 to 3 cubic metres

What is the difference between Redgum and Ironbark firewood?
Redgum burns hot with excellent coal production — ideal for wood heaters and open fireplaces. Red Ironbark is denser with a higher heat output and slower burn rate — perfect for overnight fires in Trentham, Tylden, Woodend and other cold Macedon Ranges areas. Both are premium Australian hardwoods. Both are sold by the cubic metre.
